The History Martial Art
The origin of kickboxing goes back to 2000 years ago in Asia. Kickboxing was first created in Japan in the 1960s and its competitions began in the same decade.
The founders of kickboxing are Japanese karate practitioners Osamu Naguchi and Tatsu Yamada. American kickboxing also appeared in the 1970s. The founders of kickboxing in the West are Joe Lewis, Bill Wallace, Jeff Smith and Jerry Beasley. Kickboxing can be considered a combined martial sport, in which the methods of different martial arts are used.
In the middle of the 1960s, the first combat competitions with the name and term of kickboxing were held in Japan and in the city of Osaka.
Kickboxing started in America in the early 1970s. The sport rose to prominence in September 1974, when the Professional Karate Association (PKA) held the first World Kickboxing Championship in the United States of America.
